Who We Are at the Ogden ReStore

The Ogden ReStore has a mission to
create “a world where everyone has
a decent place to live
” alongside Habitat for Humanity.

Ogden, UT (May 21, 2018) — Many community members wonder what the ReStore is and how it makes an impact in the areas that we live in.

The Ogden ReStore is run and operated independently by nonprofit Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties (HFHWD). By an unanimous vote from the board at the HFHWD affiliate a couple of years ago, it was decided to start up the first ReStore for Weber and Davis Counties. With nearly 900 stores in 49 states, as indicated by the International Habitat for Humanity site, it was time to start another for the HFHWD affiliate.

While there are a few ReStores in Utah, the HFHWD affiliate decided to create a resource that could be closer for residents in Weber and Davis Counties. There were many customers who would travel over 30 to 50 miles to the ReStore in Salt Lake, the ReStore in Park City, or the one in Logan. It was time to have a store that was closer to these residents.

With the help of many volunteers and community members and over the course of many months, in October 2016, the Habitat Ogden ReStore was announced open to the public. Located at 3111 Wall Avenue, Ogden, UT, this nonprofit home improvement thrift store became a place where the community could donate, shop, and volunteer.

DONATE.

A Habitat ReStore is a nonprofit home improvement thrift store and donation center. Community members from all around the state can come to this ReStore to drop off items for a tax-exempt receipt. For those living in Weber and Davis Counties, the Habitat Ogden ReStore offers a free pick-up service to drive to resident’s homes to receive donations.

“A good deal for you, your community,
and the environment”.

The Ogden ReStore is a great way to celebrate Earth Day everyday. The Ogden ReStore diverts home improvement items from the landfill through donations from the community. Whether it is furniture, working appliances, lumber, plumbing, and other home items, they can be donated to the Ogden ReStore donation center. In 2017, over 303 tons of items were diverted from the landfill. That is equivalent to the weight of 30 box trucks.

SHOP.

This particular ReStore sells new and gently-used items, including furniture, appliances, building materials, and much more the general public. Items are usually sold at a fraction of the retail price. Anyone can shop at the ReStore, especially those looking for great deals, those remodeling, and those looking for diy projects.

The Ogden ReStore is a resource for the HFHWD affiliate to raise funds for families in Weber and Davis Counties who may need help repairing or building their homes. Proceeds from the Ogden ReStore goes towards A Brush With Kindness exterior home projects, home builds, and other assistance for local low-income families. To be more specific, this year, proceeds are going towards the Guzman family, a single mother with six children and their new Habitat home, which will be built at 450 15th Street Ogden UT 84404.

VOLUNTEER.

Lastly, community members and people looking to volunteer can come to the Ogden ReStore. Volunteers work along with ReStore managers in pricing, moving, and organizing merchandise. The Ogden ReStore is a place where the community can come together. Volunteers can learn a multitude of skills, including retail management, customer service, do-it-yourself skills, and much more. “By giving your time, you help the Habitat ReStore do more to support building projects that benefit families in your community”, as indicated by the International Habitat for Humanity website.
